Bigger is Here

United continue to replace 50 seat regional jets with larger aircraft featuring first class, expanded Economy Plus and Wi-Fi.

We are excited to announce that we are converting 55 of United's key U.S. domestic business markets from 50 seat aircraft to larger regional jets, offering more premium seating, more amenities and Wi-Fi on every plane. As additional E-175 and mainline narrow body aircraft are delivered, we will prioritize conversions to include remaining single cabin aircraft operating between United hubs and key business markets. We expect to have fewer than 100 aircraft in our 50-seat fleet by the end of 2019. Click here to read more details.

United and Air China Strengthen and Extend Strategic Partnership

We recently signed a multi-year agreement with Air China to strengthen our long-standing strategic partnership. In addition to the extension of the agreement, we established a joint strategic initiative that will deepen coordination between the two airlines for the benefit of our customers. Together with Air China, we currently operate the leading joint network between China and the US, and together carried more than 2.7 million customers between the two countries in 2015. United Make History with Launch of Regularly Scheduled Flights Using Sustainable Biofuel
In March we became the first U.S. airline to begin using sustainable aviation biofuel for regularly scheduled flights, with the departure of United Flight 708 from Los Angeles to San Francisco. The launch marks a significant milestone in the commercial aviation industry by moving beyond demonstration flights and test programs to the use of advanced biofuels for United's ongoing operations. Argentina Suspends Reciprocity Fee for U.S. Citizens for 90 Days

Effective March 24, Argentina has temporarily suspended the reciprocity fee currently levied on Americans entering the country for tourism or business. This coincides with negotiations for the country to re-enter the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, allowing Argentine nationals to enter or transit the U.S. without a visa. United offers daily service to Buenos Aires (EZE) from IAH.

Temporary checkpoint screening change at Chicago O'Hare Terminal 1

United is investing more than $100 million in our United Club locations over the next few years to offer customers the added comfort and convenience they expect during their trips. Starting April 13, 2016, we will begin expansion and extensive renovations at the United Club in Chicago O'Hare (ORD) Terminal 1, across from gate B6. During construction, ORD security checkpoint 3 will close for 10-16 weeks, and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will increase staffing and screening capability at checkpoints 1 and 2 to accommodate traffic flows. MileagePlus Premier members, Star Gold, military service members, customers using wheelchairs and other travelers who currently use checkpoint 3 will be accommodated at checkpoint 2. United Global Services customers who do not have TSA PreCheck will have a dedicated lane at the new location.

While we anticipate normal security wait times to continue, United and the TSA will be monitoring lines throughout this time. As we enter the busy summer travel season, travelers are encouraged to visit TSA.gov to view current security wait times prior to departing for the airport.

New Baggage Rules Effective April 11th

Porter continues to offer a generous carry-on size allowance. In fact, a generous 22” x 9” x 16”. That’s in addition to one personal item such as a purse or laptop bag.

We now tag all carry-on bags. This makes sure everyone keeps to the same generous size. It seems that some people are carrying their carry-on just a bit too far. This puts the space squeeze on everyone, and those bags don’t meet our regulatory size requirements.

If the bag is too big, it will be checked. There is a checked-bag fee of $37.50 at the airport check-in counter. Beginning April 11, 2016, oversize carry-on bags will be checked at the gate, for a fee of $47.50 - $129.38 taxes and fees included. At arrival, these will be picked up at the baggage carousel.

To avoid delays, the carry-on bag must be smaller than the maximum size and weigh no more than 9kg. If the bag is oversize, the passenger can save by paying $27.50 for their checked bag in advance. This is cheaper than paying $37.50 to check that same bag at the check-in counter, or checking it at the gate starting at $47.50 + taxes and fees.

Please note: Porter only accepts debit or credit card payments at check-in or at the gate. We are now cash-free.

Some of our premium VIPorter members receive complimentary checked baggage benefits. To receive this benefit, members must check their bag at the ticket counter using their dedicated Premium Access lane. Any oversized baggage checked at the gate will incur the fee.

GatePorter is a complimentary service provided to all passengers. All baggage that meets the carry-on size requirements is checked at departure and collected upon arrival at the gate.

We thank you for sharing this important policy update with our mutual customers to ensure a smooth transition.

Please visit the Travel Agents portal for more details regarding Porter’s baggage policy.
